With the LED theme going strong, I wanted to make an interactive LED table which would respond to objects being placed on it.
The design was based off a product called Octolively from Evil Mad Scientist and I designed a custom PCB designed to be tiled. Every single white LED also has a IR Tx and Rx pair around it so you can proximity sense for every single node. This worked well in small sections, however when assembled into a large matrix, pixels started triggering each other.
A scan pattern and crude network solution needs to be implemented to fully realise the table’s potential, but that will have to wait for a rainy day.
